Porto’s Alma 13

The big fist died. Like forever I have been wanting to publish a book, just so that he could see his name living on. I told him about my blog, I showed him my Logo and I explained to him that it contains elements of music. One “f” denotes the “forte” sign as on musical notation and the circle around it is inspired by an old type vinyl. I told him I would adopt his name, as my writing pseudonym. This is because I have already used my real name for my singing career. I have always needed this separation between names and identities. My whole life has been marked by this identity crises as to the type of art I should follow. And this is something I had in common with the big fist. Weiterlesen

Porto’s Alma 12

Look at this beautiful old telephone box its wall on which I am leaning on right now. It really makes me an artifact of a museum, don’t you think? It is a little bit sad though, that people are not used to calling people inside this phone cell anymore. I would love to listen to phone conversations, hidden love stories or spy adventures or something of that sort. But people who use this cell mostly just lost or forgot their mobile phones, so the conversations are on the short side and boring. “Where are you, I am here, could you stop by, I will stop by”; that is about the gist of it so far. And yet, I am waiting for this romantic love story, were this amorous young poor boy with no mobile phone and no phone at home is trying to call his love repeatedly, leaving beautiful tales of love on his chosen one’s answering machine. Porto’s Alma 11

Since I have been writing my Streetart Stories about the City Ghost of Frankfurt am Main, I feel I have been chased by all sorts of ghost’s or monsters sprayed on to the walls in different cities. In Mainz, there is this monster mostly popping up on Stickers or papers stuck to walls, dustbins, traffic signs or whatever. In Bremen, I found this really ugly monster which looks like a giant skate from some underwater horror show. When I pass by Düsseldorf on the train, I always recognize these huge pieces of some monster or other as well similar to the one in Mainz. The city ghost in Frankfurt looks also more like a monster than a ghost and I think Hazul’s piece here is really this type of ghost that first springs to mind. Weiterlesen

Porto’s Alma 10

So reminiscing about Portugal really got me into talking about Fado Futebol and Fatima. Wow, the three F’s that sum up Portugal. What is it about stereotypes always coming to mind when we talk about different cultures? Somehow they are true but then again they are offensive, so how to deal with this phenomenon? There is this running joke about German punctuality. Being on time in Portugal means being at least 20 minutes late. I hate that. Mostly, I get so excited or nervous before an appointment that I get there way in advance. So once, I ended up waiting more than an hour. Weiterlesen

So this Throw Up is going to be about football. I hope I am not going to lose any German readers, so I shout it out right at the beginning: I support Portugal. Of course, I was also rooting for Germany and it was really cool when they won the world cup in 2014. But I remember watching one game in the European Championship 2012, a first round encounter between Portugal and Germany. I was watching the game at a German club and I was the only person carrying a Portuguese flag. Of course, I did this to provoke the situation because everybody could see that I was German. So I kind of made up this joke about doing it for sociological research. And I genuinely made great observations. Everybody was nice but more because they were kind of ignoring the fact that a German woman was holding up a Portuguese flag. Weiterlesen

Porto’s Alma 8

Now that you climbed up the hill, do you see? Surely you did enjoy the wonderful view which the Portuguese call a “miradouro”. But did you really look, did you really see? Have you not noticed the drawing in the middle of my face? We have already talked about my blank face, only empty to those not observing with their third eye. And here, here on top of the hill my sprayer drafted this third eye and it proves that this is the reason for my hidden identity. It’s not about who I am, nor who the creator, the sprayer of the piece might be, nor about you Alma. It’s about what you see in her, it’s about the city of Porto and its heart, it’s about the true urban soul. Weiterlesen

Porto’s Alma 7

I feel like I cannot hide my religiosity any longer. I am so scared to admit being religious. I think this is because religion is only associated with extremism nowadays. But I am in no way fanatic about religion, please belief that! I carry my religion deep inside my heart and I don’t like boasting about it. I hate it when people use their religion to present themselves as a better person or when they use it to do bad things. It seems that the mere mention of being Catholic moves people to blaming you for priests’ horrible crime of violation. Then I feel so disturbed, hurt and sad because my religion has caused so much damage which makes me wanting to keep it hidden. I heard that Muslims have a similar problem

Porto’s Alma 6

It is your crown which reminds me of Fatima and I am pretty sure that you symbolize her here. I have been to Fátima the place of pilgrimage and it was a really inspiring visit. I visited with people from the church, I mean really old nuns from a catholic convent in Lisbon. This was absolutely strange because they were thirty years my senior and I felt like there grandchild because I really have this strong connection with them. I remember sitting next to one nun whose mobile phone was ringing during the church service and everybody was looking at me. It is so silly of me away associate this story with Fatima to straight. Porto’s Alma 5

So these red ornaments really look like drawings of a Hindu god. Especially the circular decorations surrounding the head or the red spot on the forehead lead me to associate this piece with Hinduism. I think they call this spot “Bindi” and it is located at the position of the third eye. At the top of the hill, I want to write more about this important space in the face as, in the main, it is this very issue robbing me of my sleep at night. It sometimes hurts so much and only heals when I let my energy flow creatively. So I belief it must be some kind of energy point. I really want to study the seven chakren more; they denote different energy spots on the body. Weiterlesen

Porto’s Alma 4

I bet you noticed that my head is predominantly depicted in a drooped position as if I were sad or lost in thoughts. It’s not that I am looking down on people stopping by. It’s nothing like that. It’s just the way I am, melancholic, dreamy or sad but in a good way. That’s why the “sad girl” (Trauriges Mädchen MZ) from the city of Mainz in Germany really is like my twin sister. Like her, I am happy in my sadness. It is my way of connecting with life through my emotions. I prefer to be a little sad in order to be aware of every possible emotion around me compared to being always happy in a superficial, shallow way of partying. For me, sadness is something good, something profound, something that gives life so much more meaning. Weiterlesen
